Dr. Christopher Fennell, Director of the School of Psychology

I studied… (What? Where?)

My studies took me from coast to coast. I began my university studies in psychology at the University of New Brunswick and then did a masters and doctorate in developmental psychology at the University of British Columbia.

I am researching or interested in researching…

My research focusses on how young infants learn the sounds and words of their native language or languages. Indeed, I am particularly interested in how babies learning two languages navigate their linguistic environment.

Are you affiliated with any other academic units?

I am honoured to be affiliated with the Department of Linguistics here at the University of Ottawa. I also hold a research chair at the University of Ottawa Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute.

Why did I accept this position?

I am very proud to be a member of the School of Psychology. I wanted to serve the other members of our School community in order to support their strong commitment to research, clinical training, and teaching.

My greatest passion

Outside of my research and teaching, my greatest passion is rugby. I played for years and am now involved on the administrative side.

Favorite spot on campus (to read, to eat, etc.)

I think that I share this one with most of my colleagues in the Faculty of Social Sciences: I love to get baked goods from Première Moisson. Even better, eating those baked goods in the sun on the benches outside the building.
