Mira Buckle, second year student studying Political Science (Honors), French Immersion.

Mira is a TD Scholar and second year student studying Political Science (Honors), French Immersion. As a member of Qalipu First Nation in Newfoundland and Labrador, Mira is committed to cultural revitalization.  She received funding to complete a film this summer that highlights Indigenous youth and their stories of how they connect with their culture. Mira believes that youth representation at a municipal and provincial level allows for more comprehensive and diverse perspectives. She is founder and co-chair of the Corner Brook Youth Advisory Committee and member of the Newfoundland and Labrador Premier’s Youth Council.  Mira is a gold award holder of the Duke of Edinburgh program. As a participant of the program, she received a Passion to Purpose grant to create a film, targeting students in grades 4-6, that addresses potential issues and solutions to using technology. This summer, Mira is working as an intern with the Summer Leadership Program at her local MP’s constituency office. She is also looking forward to spending time with her new puppy and participating in the Beaverbrook Vimy Prize program, a two-week experiential program in Belgium and France studying the interwoven First and Second World War history of Canada.
