The Faculty of Social Sciences and the School of Psychology are proud to announce that Monnica Williams, a professor, researcher and therapist, has been awarded a new Canada Research Chair in Mental Health Disparities.

This federal government support will help her continue to strive for excellence in research while allowing us to benefit from her wide range of knowledge in the field of psychology.

Monnica Williams seeks to understand and improve the psychological wellbeing of the entire Canadian population in all its diversity. More specifically, her research looks at the behaviours related to the health of members of racialized and stigmatized groups, for whom mental health treatments need to become more effective. This research is all the more relevant, given the rise in cultural diversity in Canada.

Professor Williams has conducted clinical research on the psychological and pharmacological treatment of obsessive compulsive and post-traumatic stress disorders. She has published over a hundred articles, works, chapters and scientific reports, most notably in the Journal of Anxiety Disorders, Behavior Research and Therapy, Clinical Case Studies, Depression and Anxiety, and in JAMA Psychiatry. She is also an associate editor of The Behavior Therapist and New Ideas in Psychology, and sits on the editorial board of the Journal of Obsessive-Compulsive and Related Disorders and of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy.

We wish Monnica Williams all the best in her work here as a Canada Research Chair.
