Around the world, many organizations are fighting for the socio-economic autonomy of women and young people. In Senegal, I find that AlphaDev stands out for its unwavering commitment to empowering women through innovative literacy and vocational training programs. At the heart of this initiative is AlphaDev's Centre d'Apprentissage Populaire, where young women can acquire valuable sewing and catering skills, paving the way for a promising future and a second chance.

Located in the heart of a vibrant community, the Centre d'Apprentissage Populaire offers much more than technical courses. It's a place where aspirations come to life, dreams are nurtured and talents are cultivated. Here, young women are welcomed and encouraged to explore their potential, develop their self-confidence and take the reins of their own destiny.

The sewing training offered by AlphaDev is not limited to learning basic techniques. Instead, participants are introduced to a range of skills and the design of complex patterns. Thanks to dedicated and experienced instructors, apprentices acquire not only practical skills, but also a thorough understanding of the business aspects of the fashion industry.
Similarly, the Popular Learning Center's catering training program opens up new career prospects for young women. Practical courses in cooking and restaurant management are offered, enabling learners to master culinary techniques while understanding the ins and outs of running a catering business.

For many of the young women who have taken AlphaDev courses, professional development opportunities abound. Some choose to launch their own business, applying the skills they have acquired to open sewing workshops or restaurants. Others prefer to join existing companies, bringing their know-how with them.

By giving young women the tools they need to become active players in their own development, AlphaDev is helping to create stronger, more inclusive and more resilient communities. Every inspired entrepreneur, every dedicated employee, every newly heard voice is a victory for autonomy and gender equality.
