Biography

From 2000 to 2006, Barry Stemshorn was Assistant Deputy Minister for the Environmental Protection Service at Environment Canada where he led federal programs to prevent and reduce pollution. A veterinarian by training, Barry previously held executive positions responsible for laboratories, field operations and policy development for the Canadian Food Inspection Agency. He later served as Director of Operations, Economic and Regional Development, at the Privy Council Office. In recent years, he has worked on projects for Canadian and international agencies, including the World Bank and the World Organisation for Animal Health. In 2011, Barry served as International Co-Chair for a study on the control of mercury pollution in China, sponsored by the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development. Barry holds a Ph.D. from the University of Guelph.
