At the Graduate School of Public and International Affairs, we offer three MA programs which will equip you with the skills and knowledge to build a career in your chosen field, whether it is in public and international affairs, security and defence, public policy and governmental affairs, diplomacy, or environmental sustainability.
The MA in Public and International Affairs provides students with a well-rounded multidisciplinary education in the concepts and practice of national and international policy-making as well as hands-on workshops to sharpen their skills as professional policy analysts. Students can pursue co-op work experiences or internships in the national capital or further afield, write a major research paper to deepen their expertise on a subject that interests them, and participate in student exchanges.
The MA in Security and Defence is an interdisciplinary degree examining the multiple dimensions of national and international security as well as the practical challenges of security policy-making in Canada and abroad. Students benefit from unique opportunities to interact with Ottawa-based security professionals and emerge with an advanced understanding of contemporary security challenges as well as the analytical and practical skills needed to succeed in the security and defence fields.
The MA in Environmental Sustainability, offered in partnership with the renowned Institute of the Environment, is a multidisciplinary degree exploring the multiple dimensions of sustainability in environmental science, economics, law and public policy. Students then integrate and apply this knowledge to some of the greatest multidimensional environmental challenges and opportunities of our time, leaving the degree with the analytical and practical skills needed to succeed in the environmental sustainability field.
