Winner of 'Anne and Saul Zussman' Scholarship
The Graduate School of Public and International Affairs at the University of Ottawa is pleased to announce that Angelica Kalubiaka, a Master’s student of Public and International Affairs, has been awarded this year’s Anne and Saul Zussman Scholarship.
Her upbringing as the daughter of immigrants shaped her outlook on the importance of diplomatic issues and civic engagement. As the president of her local riding's youth council, she helped shape legislation, representing over 24,000 young people to the Government of Canada. She later became a Parliamentary Intern and worked for Members of Parliament from both the governing party and official opposition, within the Parliamentary Internship Program (PIP). During her Parliamentary Internship, she also developed a passion for international issues developed following a unique legislative study tour of Belgium, England and Wales, where she met ambassadors and parliamentarians from all over Europe. She then joined the public service at Global Affairs Canada to work in parliamentary diplomacy and foreign affairs. As a National Leader of the Government of Canada's Workplace Charitable Campaign, she set the priorities for Canada's largest workplace charitable campaign and helped raise $2.6 million for vulnerable communities across the country.
In her spare time, Angelica participates in the World Economic Forum Global Shaper program and serves her community as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Alumni Parliamentary Internship Association. As a member of the World Trade Organization Public Forum delegation, Angelica represented Canada in Geneva while promoting international cooperation, economic equity and inclusive business practices.
Angelica has also received numerous honours, including the Queen's Platinum Jubilee Award, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council's Canada Graduate Scholarship, Canada's Top 100 Black Women to Watch in 2020, and the Mayor of Ottawa's City Builder Award.
The Anne and Saul Zussman Scholarship was established by Dr. David R. Zussman, former Professor of Public Policy and Management and former Dean of the Faculty of Administration at the University of Ottawa. The award is named after his parents. It provides financial assistance to GSPIA students for their service and dedication to the community.
