Many alumni and friends have reached out to ask how they can help. The answer is we need to do more to support our students who are experiencing emotional and financial hardship due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
We are asking for your help!
The University of Ottawa COVID-19 Student Emergency Aid Fund assists uOttawa students with unexpected needs that arise from situations beyond their control. Your financial contribution will provide students with emergency financial support that will help them overcome distressing financial situations and help mitigate mental health issues. They need your support now to remain focused on academic success, and keep them on track for graduation.
Donations to the fund will have an immediate impact by helping students facing financial urgencies such as:
-
Travel costs for students who can’t afford to get back to their families
-
Moving and storage costs for students who were forced to move out of residence on short notice
-
Loss of income from temporary layoffs
-
Other unforeseen short-term expenses that resulted directly from the COVID-19 pandemic
We will also use this fund to help students return to their studies in the Fall. Some will experience longer-term expenses such as short falls for tuition payments and living expenses due to decreased parental support due to lay-offs and the economic downturn, as well as a shortage of summer jobs needed to pay their way.
Thank you for your generosity in a time of collective hardship. Your support matters now more than ever.
