At the University of Ottawa, the spirit of giving is alive, thanks to the generosity of professors and staff shaping our community

Through their contributions, employees enhance opportunities for students, advance excellence in education and research, and create a thriving campus environment.

On April 2, uOttawa will hold its first-ever Giving Day, an event where our community will come together to amplify the power of generosity. This will create lasting opportunities and shape a brighter future.

Why uOttawa community support matters

“Many of our students need financial support to help them pursue their dreams. I want to be part of making that happen.”

Over 650 professors and staff members supported uOttawa last year, funding diverse initiatives that enrich the student experience and foster a culture of care. Contributions help fund:

  • student-focused support, like scholarships and bursaries
  • initiatives that enhance campus life, such as experiential learning and mental health assistance, which help build a vibrant, inclusive and supportive environment where students can thrive
  • research advancement, providing the resources for innovative research that makes a difference in our world.

These gifts ensure that uOttawa remains at the forefront of academic and research excellence and continues to attract top employees and students.

“I give to the University of Ottawa because I strongly believe in the institution and its mission. Graduate studies are often out of reach for many, and I would like to help ensure that all students have the chance to develop their intellectual potential. Giving reflects my values and my commitment to supporting others, because I believe that helping one another is essential in building a stronger community. By donating, I hope to make a real difference in the lives of students who would otherwise find it hard to receive the education they deserve.”

How employees can give

Employee giving at uOttawa takes many forms, each equally vital. Here are a couple:

Payroll deductions: This convenient, year-round option allows employees to spread their generosity throughout the year, making it easier to manage while providing sustainable support to projects of their choice. Charitable tax receipts for payroll deductions are automatically included on employees’ T4 slips, simplifying the process even further.

One-time gifts: This is a way to support initiatives that are particularly meaningful to employees. Whether it’s funding a specific project, honouring the memory of a loved one or celebrating milestones such as a promotion or retirement, these gifts enable employees to align their giving with personal values and life events.

Thanks to these important contributions, the collective impact of donations from our community is amplified as many come together to support causes close to their hearts.

What change your giving inspires

Giving to uOttawa is more than financial support — it’s an investment in the future. Employees understand the challenges of fluctuating university funding, and the increased impact their contributions can give the University locally and globally.

For employees, contributing to the University’s mission reinforces a culture of philanthropy and community, inspiring others to consider their impact on the University and on the world.

At the University of Ottawa, we recognize that every contribution helps build a stronger, more vibrant campus community.
