Women’s Archives Initiative

The Canadian Women's Movements Portal is a pan-Canadian inventory of archival materials available in heritage organizations (archives, libraries, museums and cultural institutions) across the country. Users will be able to search the database to locate the organizations and their records which document the trajectory of feminist activism in Canada, since 1960. 

Over 370 descriptions of archival fonds from 60 participating heritage organizations have already been submitted.

The Archives and Special Collections (ARCS) provides a secure, environmentally controlled space to ensure the long-term preservation of archival material that promotes multidisciplinary study of the women’s movement and women’s activism across the country.

What you need to do

• Phone or email the Archives (uOttawa Archives and Special Collections or the Archive of your choice*).
• Share who you are.
• Tell them what you have.
• They will tell you what to do next.
• Tell your family to contact an archivist before throwing out your materials.
