The Archives and Special Collections is involved in several initiatives which aim to bring increased focus to the history of women in Canada.

Women's Archives Initiative

This 5-year initiative, supported by distinguished alumni and friends, aims to highlight the importance of archives in bringing to light the history of the feminist movement in Canada.  The initiative focuses on ensuring that the Women’s Archives collection at uOttawa Library is fully described and made available to researchers, that specific stories are told using these archives (Storytelling Project), that access to archival records across the country are made more accessible and findable (Portal) and that women are encouraged to donate their own records to the archives.

The Canadian Archive of Women in STEM

The Canadian Archive of Women in STEM initiative is supported by Library and Archives Canada and the Canadian Institute of Women in Engineering and Sciences (CIWES). It aims to increase awareness of, and access to, archival records related to women in STEM in Canada and to encourage women working in STEM to donate their records for posterity.

COVID-19 Telling Her-Stories

This initiative aims to create a unique and special collection around the stories and experiences of women during the COVID-19 pandemic. An accessible platform has been created to collect their testimonies and stories and will allow for the inclusion of women's voices and perspectives on the impact of the pandemic in the historical discourse.
