About the Brian Dickson Law Library

The Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa is proud to name the law library the Brian Dickson Law Library and grateful to Mrs. Barbara Dickson, her family, and friends for supporting the construction of the beautiful Brian Dickson Reading Room to honour the late Chief Justice Brian Dickson.

The Brian Dickson Law Library is an integral part of the Faculty of Law (formed by two autonomous sections, Common Law and Civil Law), occupying the 4th and 5th floors of Fauteux Hall since it was built in 1973, and is also one of the main components of the network of University of Ottawa libraries. The Law Library reflects the bijural and bilingual character of the two sections it serves.

The Reading Room located on the 4th floor of the law library was built in honour of Chief Justice Brian Dickson, and also contains a full reproduction of his home office, artifacts and personal items representing his life.

Chief Justice Brian Dickson also bequeathed his personal archives to the Library and Archives Canada. This collection is catalogued, and documents are available for consultation at Library and Archives Canada. Here is an inventory (in pdf format) of the documents.
