2024 International Open Access Week
Oct 21, 2024 to Oct 27, 2024 — All day
Join us to celebrate Open Access Week at the University of Ottawa!
From October 21 – 27, 2024, we will engage with this year’s theme: “Community over Commercialization”
How can you participate?
This year’s International Open Access Week builds on the theme of “Community over Commercialization,” highlighting the importance of prioritizing community-driven approaches to open scholarship. As commercialization continues to shape academic systems and knowledge production, it is essential to amplify local voices and perspectives, focusing on approaches that best serve our community. Join us in exploring how open scholarship can align with the needs and values of the uOttawa community.
Join us for a webinar to learn about the Open Science Working Group recommendations for uOttawa
Learn about the soon-to-be published Open Science Working Group recommendations!
Recognizing the complexities and ongoing developments in the open science landscape, an Open Science Working Group was formed at the University of Ottawa (uOttawa) in 2023. This group was co-chaired by the Associate Vice-President, Research, Promotion, and Development (OVPRI) and the University Librarian and Dean of Libraries, and comprised of representatives across Faculties, the uOttawa Library, and the uO Press. Its mandate was to develop uOttawa’s position as an open science leader and enhance its ability to produce cutting edge and impactful research. After extensive discussions and analyses of the global, national, and local landscape, the working group developed a set of recommendations to advance open science practices and foster a culture of open science at uOttawa. In this webinar, the co-chairs of the working group will present the report’s eight recommendations and open the floor for discussion with the uOttawa community.
This event will be held online, on 23 October 2024 at 10 am. Join the Webinar.

Discover open access journals by uOttawa scholars
The Library provides hosting and publishing services for uOttawa-run journals on the Open Journal System (OJS). These community-based journals are a critical form of scholarship that amplify local voices within our community, such as those related to bilingualism, among others. Even better, they are hosted on OJS, a critical piece of open infrastructure. See the list of faculty and student-run journals supported by the Library.
