April 2023
Principles and criteria used for decision making in any collections budget reduction exercise:
- We will prioritize retaining French content.
- We will prioritize retaining Canadian content.
- We will give special consideration to retaining resources that contribute to creating a diverse and inclusive collection reflecting varied perspectives.
- We will aim to balance impact across disciplines and formats (e.g., films, data, databases (A&I)) where possible.
- We must acknowledge our contractual obligations to vendors and the sustainability of the staffing available to manage a change in the acquisitions model.
- We will continue to focus the collection on the goals outlined in the University’s Strategic Plan and its Strategic Areas of Research.
- We will consider the impact of all available alternative access options (e.g., open access, inter library loan, peer-to-peer sharing mechanisms, and perpetual access, etc.).
We will provide a robust communication, training, and support plan in an effort to mitigate the impact where possible for all members of the Library team and all users in a variety of methods (town hall, email, website, etc.).
