Equity, Diversity and Inclusion in Research Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) champions and encourage researchers to contribute to the creation of a more inclusive research community and society.

Overview

The Office of the Vice-President, Research and Innovation (OVPRI) is committed to fostering a research environment that provides equal opportunities for everyone and that respects and values diversity and inclusion. The EDI in Research Award recognizes faculty members who have made exceptional contributions towards improving equity, diversity and inclusion at the University of Ottawa and beyond through their leadership and/or research contributions. The award may be presented for a singular outstanding effort or a sustained effort over a long period of time.

The award is presented annually, alternating over a two-year cycle between the following categories:

  • Distinguished Achievements by a Member of an Underrepresented Group (odd-numbered years)
    • Recognises a member of an underrepresented group (women, Indigenous Peoples, racialized minorities, persons with disabilities and members of LGBTQ2+ communities) who has made an outstanding contribution to research and served as a role model for members of their community.
  • Contributions to the Advancement of EDI Through Research (even-numbered years)
    • Recognises an individual whose research, initiatives and/or leadership in research have significantly enhanced equity, diversity and inclusion at the University of Ottawa and beyond.

Laureates receive $10,000.
