Precision prevention during the lifespan
Lead: Tracy Vaillancourt
It is important to educate the population on the risk of, and build resilience against, future brain-heart diseases during the critical stages of the life trajectory. A prevention strategy, focused on childhood, middle age and senior years will be developed. Innovative school-based programs will be created to incorporate environmental, mental, physical and social approaches to prevention. This takes into consideration that childhood physical and mental trauma have a lifelong impact on brain-heart diseases. In middle age, risks can accelerate, so innovative prevention tools are important for risk reduction. Expanded guidelines will be created based off the Canadian Cardiovascular Harmonized National Guidelines Endeavour (C-CHANGE). In addition, strategies will be tailored for women, Indigenous populations and racial/ethnic minorities, with a focus on removing barriers to access. These tools will be launched through primary care, partner organizations, patient groups and media outreach.
Deliverables: Creating school-based education programs to build resilience against future brain-heart dysfunction which can be tailored and used in Canada and globally. Creating novel knowledge translation programs for providers and high-risk patients.
