Clarence Lakpini is a PhD in Law candidate at the University of Ottawa Centre for Law, Technology and Society, under the supervision of Prof. Jeremy De Beer.
Clarence Lakpini’s research focuses on the Fourth Industrial Revolution and its intersection with Intellectual Property from the perspective of developing countries. He is particularly interested in understanding how new technologies shape our world and identifying optimal responses for shaping a better future.
Clarence Lakpini obtained his LLB degree at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria. He is also a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, where he practiced for a few years. He holds an LLM in Intellectual Property law from the University of Cape Town, where his thesis titled: “An Examination of South Africa’s Efforts at Patent System Reform: TRIPS Flexibilities Fully Appropriated for Public Health Needs?” analyzed South Africa’s utilization of TRIPS flexibilities in amending its patent laws to address public health needs.
