David Wright
Profile
Biography
Professor Wright combines an Engineering PhD with his current position as Full Professor at the University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management to provide a business perspective on Information and Communications Technology, ICT, currently focusing on its use in climate change mitigation and adaptation. His present work includes how ICT can enable greenhouse gas emissions reductions in power generation, data centres, transport and buildings, and how the ICT sector can control emissions generated by its own products.
Dr. Wright has experience in government and in industry. In government, he developed systems dynamics models to evaluate the impact of industrial society on natural resource depletion and the ability of the environment to absorb pollution. In industry, he has worked with telecommunications equipment vendors and network operators on market analysis, network evolution, service requirements, distance education and the strategic impact of new technology on business. Dr. Wright is cited in: Who’s Who in the World; Who’s Who in Canadian Business; and, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering.
Research
His current research projects are on solar power and are conducted in collaboration with Sunlab and industrial partners. The first project is to evaluate the business case for the next generation of solar modules, CPV, Concentrating PhotoVoltaics. The second project is to develop a business case for integrating solar power with LED lighting without conversion to AC, Alternating Current. His current work also includes how ICT can enable greenhouse gas emissions reductions in transport and buildings, and how the ICT sector can control emissions generated by its own products, (2% of total emissions but doubling every 5 years).
