Mary Trudeau

Mary Trudeau is a professional engineer with thirty years of experience in the development and implementation of environmental policy, programs and projects, with particular specialization in water resources and urban infrastructure management. Dr. Trudeau has provided consulting advice to municipal, federal and provincial governments, as well as environmental non-government organizations and the International Joint Commission. Projects have included water resource use and watershed management, multi-pollutant emissions management for air quality, and climate change adaptation and monitoring. She also has extensive, hands-on experience in the management of water infrastructure and watershed monitoring. Prior to becoming a consultant, for fifteen years, she managed municipal water infrastructure portfolios, including maintenance and construction for potable water facilities and a surface water monitoring program. Dr. Trudeau was a principal of Marbek Resource Consultants in the early 2000s and she is currently the Director of Envirings Inc., an Ottawa-based policy consultancy. In academic research, Dr. Trudeau assessed 40-year cumulative trends in the hydrology of urbanizing watersheds in the Great Lakes Basin and associations with declines in fish richness. Her Masters degree research was an applied study of environmental effects monitoring for municipal facilities, with case studies of Ottawa’s water purification and wastewater treatment facilities. Dr. Trudeau has managed large, multi-disciplinary research teams, public advisory committees, multi-stakeholder technical advisory committees, and staff groups of up to 70 persons. She holds Bachelor degrees in Civil Engineering and English Literature, a Master of Science in Environment and Management, and a Ph.D. in Geography (Hydrology).

Her research pertains to hydrologic changes associated with urbanization and related alterations in biota, green urban water infrastructure practices and climate adaptation approaches in urban environments.

As a sessional lecturer she is not able to supervise students.
