About

BHI is an innovative interdisciplinary research initiative focused on expediting efforts to prevent, identify, treat, and provide care for brain-heart illnesses. Notably, the BHI-IDEAS strategy aims to challenge the status quo, examine decision-making practices and criteria, and embed open and transparent processes across the BHI program to help shape program development and implementation.

Mitewekan brings Indigenous ways of knowing, being, and doing to the BHI as we collectively strive for de-coloniality and reconciliation.

As part of these collaborative efforts, we have organized the BHI-IDEAS Call to Action Event to be held in Ottawa. The aim of this event is to increase awareness of identified and unidentified needs within a diverse and multidisciplinary research community, such as BHI, to promote more inclusive and equitable brain and heart research.

Event program description

The “Kahkiyaw wahkomâkanitik (All my relations) | Igniting IDEAS within the BHI Initiative” event will run in three different stages:

First, a pre-event asynchronous training will be made available to all those participants who register for the in-person sessions (April 16-17, 2024). The goal of this training is to set an IDEAS knowledge baseline amongst the participants to enhance their experience during April’s sessions.

Secondly, a full day dialogue and networking session is planned to bring together experts on IDEAS practices and to facilitate discussion and exchange of ideas within the BHI community.

Lastly, three hands-on learning sessions have been prepared to apply the IDEAS principles to scientific and health-related research activities.

Important: Access to all the training opportunities listed here is free of charge.
