Event description

Music therapy is a diverse and research informed field. Three music therapists will speak about their own way of working with children, adults and elders that range from the practical use of music to help people engage with the world around them, to work that taps into the intricacies of the neurological systems and deep psychotherapeutic work. Cheryl Jones (RP, PhD, NMT fellow, MTA),  institute member will share her work based on a model of practice called Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT), Rebecca Worden (MCCP, RP, MTA) will speak about Guided Imagery in Music (GIM) and the role it can play within the practice of psychotherapy, and Rachel Ntambwe (BMT, MTA) will discuss her experience of working 20 years in special needs classrooms, long term care facilities, and group homes for adults. Rachel presented on her clinical work and the field of music therapy at MTAO conferences, the CAMT conference, and various organizations including the Ottawa Hospital and the University of Ottawa. Rachel was an internship supervisor at Wilfrid Laurier University and is a practicum placement supervisor at Acadia University. Rachel provides music therapy and spiritual care for residents living in long term care facilities and group homes as part of her practice. Institute member, Nicola Oddy (PhD, MTA), will moderate the discussion through questions that will give each participant a chance to talk about their modality of practice, the clinical population that they serve, the role of music in their work and most important to this institute, what translational research is beneficial to their practice.
