Series Launch: Exploring EDIA in Data-Intensive Research
Join us for the launch of our series, where we'll explore EDIA in data-intensive research!
Mar 26, 2025 — 12 p.m. to 1 p.m.
Big data, clean data, biased data... ethical concerns for computational methods cross between boundaries and produce new models of skill building in academic and community-based research. When working with data as material, representation in datasets is a key concept for meeting equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility goals. However, the choice of data models, the questions posed using these models, and the composition of research teams also all contribute to advancing these objectives.

Description of the series and the speakers
This speaker series brings together experts on data equity to foster trust in digital research infrastructure by addressing representation and equitable conditions in research and knowledge mobilization. Speakers will share practical insights on utilizing Digital Research Alliance of Canada DRI resources, with each session building on the previous one to enhance engagement. Featuring uOttawa faculty, the series ensures relevance and accessibility, with hybrid sessions enabling broad participation.
Kick off the DLRI Speaker Series with an engaging fireside chat featuring Jada Watson and Kim Girling, who will share insights from their experience in musicology and policy research. Together, they will explore the challenges of creating inclusive datasets and how data choices shape equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA) in research and decision-making. They will highlight strategies for mitigating bias, fostering trust in digital research infrastructure, and ensuring datasets reflect diverse perspectives.
