Regional integration & academic freedom in higher education in Latin American and the Caribbean

This webinar aims to identify and discuss how various regional integration initiatives could promote the effective implementation of the right to academic freedom and university autonomy in Latin America and the Caribbean. Such initiatives may include faculty and student mobility, protocols for responding to attacks on academic freedom suffered by members of the university community, strengthening research on academic freedom, among others. It seeks to highlight the relationship between academic freedom and university autonomy and its contribution to the strengthening of democracies in the region. Understanding academic freedom and university autonomy as one of the pillars of democracy implies placing these issues at the centre of public debates in the region.
