Jane joins us with an impressive background in law and policy, with over 18 years of global experience in legal research, education, and advocacy across five continents. Before joining HRREC, she was a distinguished Associate Professor of Law at the Nigerian Institute of Advanced Legal Studies (NIALS) and a Visiting Scholar at NIALS' partner hub, the Open AIR Network at the University of Ottawa. Her research interests primarily revolve around food and agricultural law, governance of Big Data and AI in the agricultural sector, natural resource development, human rights, gender and development. She is committed to integrating gender perspectives and racial justice into her work, employing socio-legal methodologies to produce evidence-based insights.
Her contributions extend beyond research; she is a member of the AfCFTA Advisory Council, influencing policy and governance.
During her fellowship at HRREC, Jane will investigate the unique experiences of migrant women farmworkers and how these impact their mental health, to inform mental health policies for Canadian farmers. She will collaborate closely with HRREC academic member, Professor Delphine Nakache.
To add to this great news, Jane has just successfully secured a competitive grant from the Digital Research Alliance of Canada to support a new initiative focused on equity, diversity, inclusion, and accessibility (EDIA). This grant will facilitate awareness-building and enhance research skills related to Digital Research Infrastructure (DRI) tools for racialized persons within uOttawa's faculties of Law and Social Sciences. She will also undergo a 16-week training program on open science practices to equip her to provide this essential training.
Jane expresses her heartfelt gratitude to Professors Delphine Nakache and Penelope Simons for their support during the grant application process.
Please join us in welcoming her!
