HRREC hosts Rohingya women's visit in Ottawa
On 23-25 September, the Human Rights Research & Education Centre had the pleasure of hosting four members of the Rohingya Maìyafuìnor Collaborative Network (RMCN) – a network of young Rohingya women dedicated to advancing the human rights of the Rohingya people in the face of severe persecution and displacement.

Their three-day advocacy trip to Ottawa consisted of meetings with key government officials, parliamentarians and advocates who share their vision for peace, justice, and human rights in Myanmar. In presentations at HRREC, they screened two documentaries about the current situation and their work. During the Parliamentary Press Briefing, leaders Yasmin Ullah and Noor Azizah called on the Canadian government for immediate attention and assistance for the Rohingya people as they confront escalating genocide in Arakan/Rakhine state and rising hate, exclusion and violence against Rohingya refugees – predominantly women and children – in South-East Asia.

Special thank you to our friends at InterPares and the Voices in Exile project, as well as the support of Senator Marilou McPhedran, WPS Ambassador Jacqueline O’Neil, Foreign Minister Joly’s policy team, MP Ali Ehsassi, and MP Hon. Michael Chong. HRREC Director John Packer accompanied the RMCN on their visit and contributed to the Parliamentary Press Conference.
