The University of Ottawa, the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) and the Scholars at Risk (SAR) uOttawa Committee are delighted to welcome a new visiting researcher!

Georges Eddy Lucien is a professor at the Université d'État d'Haïti and Université Quisqueya. Mr. Lucien is the first French-speaking researcher in the SAR uOttawa! program. Since September, he has been hosted by the Department of Geography, Environment and Geomatics in the Faculty of Arts.

He holds an Habilitation à Diriger de la Recherche in Geography from the Université de Paris8, and has also completed a thesis in Urban History at the Université de Toulouse, Le Mirail and a post-doctorate in Urban Studies at the Université du Québec à Montréal. He currently heads the Laboratoire dynamique des mondes américains (LADMA, École normale supérieure de Port-au-Prince), is responsible for the Master's degree in Geography, École Normale Supérieure/Paris and also co-directs the History Department (ISERSS/Université d'État d'Haïti). He is the author of several works on territorial recompositions and urban policies.

The University of Ottawa joined the Scholars at Risk (SAR) Network in 2014 and entrusted the Human Rights Research and Education Centre (HRREC) to develop a SAR uOttawa Program. HRREC Associate Director, Viviana Fernandez, manages the SAR uOttawa Program. She was elected to the SAR Canada Section's Steering Committee (2016-2022) and is a member of the SAR International Advisory Committee (IAC) since 2016. Viviana currently represents the Coalition for Academic Freedom in the Americas (CAFA) in the SAR IAC.
