The symposium will explore the values that underlie privacy protection and examine how these values are furthered, but also threatened, by technological and scientific developments. It will feature recent research conducted under the OPC’s Contributions Program, while providing a forum for academic researchers, civil society and public interest groups, and individuals to discuss privacy research results and their relevance for Canadians. Sessions will be open to the public and free of charge. They will also be webcast live and recordings will be posted on the CLTS website. The event materials and sessions will be available in both English and French.
The CLTS is organizing the symposium in partnership with the Canada Research Chair in Information Law at the University of Ottawa, the Centre of Genomics and Policy at McGill University, the Samuelson-Glushko Canadian Internet Policy and Public Interest Clinic at the University of Ottawa, and the Public Interest Advocacy Centre . The funds were awarded to the successful applicant following a special call for proposals, which was issued in June 2014. The submitted proposals were evaluated by a panel comprising representatives of the OPC and an external peer reviewer.
