Adam, who was pursuing his doctoral studies at the Faculty of Law Graduate Studies under the supervision of Professor Amir Attaran, defended his thesis titled Neglecting the Essentials: Addressing Barriers to Accessing Off-Patent Essential Medicines for Neglected Diseases in Canada.
Adam’s thesis explores the flipside of the traditional access to medicines narrative, focusing on cheap, off-patent Essential Medicines for diseases like tuberculosis that are widely available in many low and middle-income settings, but not formally available in Canada. He looks forward to continuing to put theory into practice in his ongoing work with Doctors Without Borders Canada.
