On February 28th 2022, Faculty member Dr. Michael Geist appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (ETHI). The Committee is reviewing the collection and use of mobility data by the Public Health Agency of Canada to support the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
On February 28th 2022, Faculty member Dr.Michael Geist appeared before the House of Commons Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics (ETHI). The Committee is reviewing the collection and use of mobility data by the Public Health Agency of Canada to support the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Geist offered his comments on the legality, ethics and strict statutory requirements of the collection and use of mobile data to make the case that this was a genuine privacy quandary.

Dr. Michael Geist is the Canada Research Chair in Internet and e-Commerce Law, a Faculty member at the Centre for Law, Technology and Society, and a Full Professor in the Faculty of Law, Common Law Section at the Univerisity of Ottawa.
