Professor Ian Kerr, a member of the Center for Law, Technology and Society, has been awarded a $187,990 Insight Grants from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) of Canada for their initiative: In machines we trust – developing frameworks for the governance of machines with artificial intelligence.

The initiative lead with Jacquelyn A. Burkell (Western University) and Sherry Turkle (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) will aim to develop the ethical and legal frameworks for the governance of machines with artificial intelligence, and will focus on the following near-term technologies: autonomous military robots, driverless vehicles and social robots.
