Professor Michael Geist has been named the “Fulbrighter of the Month” for October by Fulbright Canada, which operates an educational exchange program between Canada and the United States.

An alumnus of the Fulbright Canada program, Prof. Geist was chosen for the monthly award after being named one of the 50 most influential people in intellectual property by Managing Intellectual Property magazine. He was also recently awarded an IP3 Award by Public Knowledge, a Washington-based public interest group that defends the rights of citizens in the emerging digital culture.

Prof. Geist spent his Fulbright exchange year at Columbia University, an experience he credits with providing him with a broader perspective on the United States, and for allowing him the opportunity to get to know Americans better. “I think the Fulbright Program allows for a far deeper understanding of both of our respective countries, and peoples, and that can only be a good thing,” he says.
