Professor de Beer’s article is the first rigorous empirical analysis of Canada’s copyright tariff-setting process. Copyright tariff-setting greatly impacts business issues around online music streaming, internet service provider liability, radio and television broadcasting, access to educational materials, and much more. It is a key part of Canada’s cultural, industrial and technology policy framework. Professor de Beer’s study delivers a unique understanding of Canada’s specific tariff-setting procedures, enabling more informed debate about copyright issues, and helping policymakers to better respond to the needs and concerns of copyright stakeholders.
The Seton Award is granted annually in recognition of the best writing published in the Journal of the Copyright Society of the USA. The award honours Charles B. Seton (1910-2005), one of the founding members of the Society.
