MARINA PAVLOVIC
Professor Pavlović’s nomination was supported by four letters—three from four students and one from a colleague. Here is a flavor from one of the letters: “In the classroom, Professor Pavlović provides a learning environment that enhances students’ capabilities to function as lawyers. Specifically, she provides theoretical knowledge that establishes a foundation that students can use to build their practical skills. She stands out amongst the Faculty because, more often than not, law professors too often focus on theory over practical skills in the classroom. Most importantly, Professor Pavlović always provides a contextual approach in her teaching style. This assists students in understanding their future role in the legal profession.” “For us personally, we are just two of many students who Professor Pavlović has helped mentor during our time at Fauteux Hall. Whether we struggled with academics or the never-ending pressures of law school, Professor Pavlović was there to support us. She was always available, always listened, and always provided thoughtful advice to help us work through our frustrations. Her advice on balancing school work, job searches, and the stress of marks was refreshing and wholeheartedly appreciated. Her concern for the wellbeing of students is a truly remarkable characteristic.”

JEREMY DE BEER
Jeremy De Beer’s dedication and vision for research have translated in a stellar profile of peer-reviewed research grants totaling approximately CA$13m since 2009. Specifically, he was PI in 2 SSHRC Insight Grants (CA$65k in 2009 and CA$354k in 2013); Co-PI on a uOttawa first-ever grant from the European Commission (€93k in 2009); collaborator on a Genome Canada grant (CA$5.4m in 2009); Co-PI on 5 international grants from development funders (CA$3.2m from IDRC in 2010, 2013 and 2015; €572k from GIZ in 2010; and US$80k from OSF in 2013). Just recently, Jeremy and Chidi Ogumanam and their diverse partners across Africa were recipients of CA$2.5m SSHRC Partnership Grant. Jeremy’s research deliverables during the period are evinced, in part, by a total of 5 books where he is associated as a contributing author/editor, 26 peer reviewed articles and book chapters. To his credit are numerous commissioned expert reports for Canadian government departments (Industry, Heritage, and Foreign Affairs), UN agency (the World Intellectual Property Organization), national NGOs and global think tanks. He is very much sought after as a result of the visibility of his work globally. He has over the period convened and co-convened events featuring hundreds of participants in North and South America, Europe and Africa.
