Dr. Leonard Wassenaar is the Executive Director of the André E. Lalonde National Facility in Accelerator Mass Spectrometry (AMS) at the University of Ottawa. With over 30 years of research experience, he has authored more than 340 scientific publications and two textbooks, achieving over 20,000 citations. His expertise spans stable isotope hydrology, ecology, environmental radioisotopes, and AMS applications in climate and environmental sciences. Dr. Wassenaar has advanced the understanding of water resource tracing and isotope methodologies globally. He has led projects quantifying hydrological cycles and contaminant transport and contributed to numerous international collaborations fostering innovative isotope technologies. His leadership at the AMS Laboratory focuses on developing cutting-edge applications in radioisotope dating methods and isotopic studies.

Dr. Oliver Warr is an Assistant Professor of Earth and Environmental Science at the University of Ottawa. He has been with the AEL-AMS team since 2024. He received his Ph.D. in Environmental Geochemistry and Microbiology from the University of Manchester, UK, in 2014. His research interests and program focus on applying the latest in field-based mass spectrometry and high-precision analyses to develop noble gas and stable isotope geochemical frameworks and models aimed at understanding the fundamental processes surrounding geologic fluids, biogeochemical and hydrological cycles, and how they intersect with society.

Patricia Inostroza is the Administrative and Financial Services Lead for the Facility. She joined the team in July 2024. Patricia received her B.Sc. in Statistics and Computer Science from the University of Ottawa in 1988 and a grad certificate in Business Administration from Carleton University in 2000 (MDPW Program).

Sonia Schellenberger joined the AEL AMS Facility in January 2023 as the Administrative and Financial Assistant for the teams. Sonia received her B.Sc. in Biochemistry from Trent University and a M.H.Sc. Degree in Laboratory Medicine & Pathobiology from the University of Toronto. Sonia has been working in an adinistrative support capacity for the past 15 years in both clinical and research organizations.

Sarah Murseli is the Laboratory Manager for the Radiocarbon Sample Preparation Laboratory, and has been with the AEL AMS team since 2014. Sarah received her B.Sc. in Physical Geography from Carleton University and M.Sc. in Physical Geography from the University of Ottawa. Her fields of expertise include isotope geochemistry and radiocarbon sample preparation.

Barbara Francisco is a Research Scientist in the Actinides Laboratory and has been with the AEL AMS team since 2015. She received her B.Sc., M.Sc., and PhD in Chemistry from Federal Fluminense University in Brazil. She has been working with trace elements analysis since 2009.

Dr. Zondervan is a Sr. AMS Physicist at AEL-AMS. Prior to joining the University of Ottawa, he was a Sr. Scientist at the Rafter Radiocarbon Laboratory within the National Isotope Centre of GNS Science, New Zealand. He received his PhD in Nuclear Physics in 1992 at the University of Amsterdam, Netherlands and more than 30 years of experience with operating and maintaining AMS systems for 14C, 10Be, and 26Al analysis.
Dr. Gary Salazar

Dr. Salazar is a Sr. AMS Physicist at AEL-AMS. Prior to joining the University of Ottawa, he was Lab Deputy Manager and lead MICADAS operator at the Oescher Centre for Climate Change at the University of Bern, Switzerland. He received his PhD in Biomedical Sciences in 2006 from Hiroshima University, Japan developing new mass spectrometry techniques. After he was a postdoctoral scholar at Purdue and at the Center for Accelerator Mass Spectrometry, Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, USA. He has over 12 years AMS experience with for hybrid gas-ion source and aerosol 14C measurements.

Christine joined the Radiocarbon Laboratory in 2023. Before coming to the University of Ottawa, she worked at radiocarbon labs in New Zealand, California, and Wisconsin. She received her PhD in Archaeology (specializing in 14C dating of artifacts) from the University of California, Riverside.

Liam joined the Actinides Laboratory in 2017 while working on his Honours thesis and continued to work in the lab as a research assistant until the end of 2018. He returned to the Actinides Laboratory in 2021 as a laboratory technician and is primarily focused on gamma spectrometry and trace radioisotope analysis.
