The University of Ottawa is proud to be a partner of Canadian Science Policy Conference 2020 (CSPC), the 12th edition of a forum that convenes Canada’s largest and most diverse science and innovation policy community. This virtual event will run from November 16 to 20, 2020.

The University of Ottawa plays a vital role in shaping Canada’s public and scientific policies, and during CSPC, it will host a virtual booth to showcase its 12 research centres, institutes and hub, whose researchers focus on public policy-related issues. The University will present its newly launched Alex Trebek Forum for Dialogue initiative: “Smart Changes for a Better World: Transforming AI, Water Governance, and Human Rights Policy”. This initiative explores three areas that align with uOttawa’s new, interconnected Strategic Areas of Research, a testament to its commitment to cultivating innovative, cross-disciplinary, and collaborative approaches to drive research into the future.

As part of the University of Ottawa’s participation in CSPC 2020, the Institute for Science, Society and Policy (ISSP) will host a plenary session entitled “Aligning Science, Society and Policy for the Grand Challenges of our Time” on November 17, 2020, at 4:30 p.m. This panel will convene leading uOttawa scholars whose cutting-edge approaches aim to bridge and align science, society, and policy imperatives in areas ranging from energy and climate to artificial intelligence, public health, and inclusive innovation. Leaders from the public and private sectors, as well as from Indigenous communities, will share their perspectives on the issues.

Researchers from the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Science will also represent uOttawa’s science policy expertise on panels that focus onscience and society(Panel 202, November 17, 10:30 a.m.) and on science and policy (Panel 119, November 19, 2:30 p.m.)

Our presence at CSPC 2020 also includes the University of Ottawa Press (UOP), the oldest bilingual university press in North America. Through uOttawa’s virtual booth, the UOP will present new titles such as Vulnerable: The Law, Policy and Ethics of COVID-19.

University of Ottawa President Jacques Frémont will share his vision for public policy and the direction of research at the University of Ottawa in a bilingual interview accessible to delegates throughout the conference.
