The University had previously maintained the ninth position in the medical category, which ranks universities with a medical school.
In this most recent ranking, uOttawa is among Canadian leaders for research income growth, placing fourth. Its research income has increased by an impressive 10.6% from 2019 to 2020, to more than $383 million.
“These latest rankings show that the University of Ottawa is in the vanguard of academic research in Canada,” said Sylvain Charbonneau, vice-president, research and innovation. “We have achieved this milestone thanks to the creativity and scientific rigour of our researchers, whose drive to make a difference continues to move discovery and innovation forward, across the country and around the world.”
This year, Research Infosource is also shining a spotlight on changes that have occurred over a 20-year span, from 2000 to 2019. The University of Ottawa has grabbed the top spot in total university research publication growth over this period with a 264% increase. It has also clinched first place in university international collaboration publication growth, which rose by a staggering 579% over 20 years.
