2. Create your Ventus account.
3. Complete the intake form.
4. Enter your disability-related information and upload your documentation.
5. After reviewing your documentation and intake form, a member of our team will contact you about booking an appointment.

 Registration and accommodation plan change deadlines:

• Fall term: November 12
• Winter term: March 15
• Spring-Summer: At least 7 days before an exam

Note: If you have exceptional circumstances or you’d like to register with us before the term starts, contact us for further information.

Note: If you are enrolled in the Honours Bachelor of Science in Nursing and seeking academic accommodations, you must register with the Academic Accommodations Service at the University of Ottawa. This also applies if you are enrolled in the collaborative program with Algonquin College (i.e., Pembroke, Woodroffe, or uOttawa campus) and with La Cité.

Once Academic Accommodations receives your documentation (available in the Documentation by type of disability section on this page), you will be contacted to schedule your initial appointment with a Learning Specialist. 

Selection of academic accommodations for courses

Academic accommodations for courses:

• After enrolling in a course, you must now log into your Ventus account and select the academic accommodations you require for that course from the list of accommodations established with your learning specialist. Under the Accommodations tab, choose and submit your accommodation selection for each course.

For exams, you must still confirm all notices of examination submitted by your professors.

• You won’t receive academic accommodations for a course until you submit your selection.
• To protect your confidentiality, teaching and exam accommodations that you don’t select aren’t visible to your course instructor.
• After you submit your accommodations selections, you’ll need to contact your learning specialist to make any changes.

You must submit accommodation selections for all courses in which you’re enrolled by the term deadlines:

• Winter: January 31 
• Spring-Summer: August 31
• Fall: September 30

Important information:

• In Ontario, a Learning Disorder can only be formally diagnosed through a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment completed by a registered clinical psychologist, clinical psychological associate or neuropsychologist. Assessments and documentation by Speech-Language Pathologists, Occupational Therapists and family physicians are not considered appropriate medical documentation for a Learning Disorder.
• Outdated assessments and other forms of documentation: Students who have an outdated psycho-educational assessment or other documentation may be granted interim academic accommodations for one term. The cost of an assessment should not deter you from registering; you can discuss possible external funding options with your Learning Specialist.
