Admission Scholarship
At the University of Ottawa, we take immense pride in recognizing the exceptional achievements of our students. To do this, we provide a scholarship program designed to recognize excellence while providing financial support during your doctoral journey.
An admission scholarship may be awarded to eligible candidates:
- Canadian students, permanent residents, protected persons, members of a diplomatic corps, and international students admitted into doctoral programs.
- Have an admission average of 8.0/10 or higher.
To maintain the scholarship, you must commit to full-time enrolment without interruption for the duration of the scholarship, covering 12 consecutive terms. This ensures that you can fully immerse yourself in your studies and make the most of the academic opportunities available.
This financial support offers a minimum value of $72,000 over a period of four (4) years and consists of two components:
- The first component: An admission scholarship valued at $9,000 per year and paid in instalments of $3,000 per term for the first 12 consecutive terms.
- The second component: Financial support from your academic unit in the form of assistantship employment contracts or other internal scholarship sources. This component is a minimum value of $9,000 per year for four years.1, 2

Note
1If you receive a scholarship from an external source (e.g., CIHR, NSERC, SSHRC, OGS, FRQ, CSC), you will continue to receive the first component of the Admission Scholarship. However, if a second component is offered by your academic unit or another internal source, it will be optional for the period of validity of the external scholarship. Decisions are made by each faculty. The total value of the second component can therefore be reduced accordingly.
2If you are enrolled in an online program, you will continue to receive the first component of the Admission Scholarship. However, the second component offered by your academic unit or another internal source, will be optional. Decisions are made by each faculty.
