Diversity and inclusion

We pride ourselves on being a safe, welcoming university where diversity and inclusion are highly valued. We are firmly committed to working to eliminate all forms of racism, discrimination, and harassment. One of uOttawa’s strengths is the diversity of its people. We want to ensure that everyone feels welcome, regardless of race, ethnic background, sexual orientation, gender identity, creed, or ableness. It is essential that everyone on our campus feel safe and be treated with respect. Although we number 50,000, we are a single, welcoming community that unequivocally opposes and denounces racism, harassment, racial slurs, and discrimination.

An Insta-friendly campus for all seasons

The wonderful personality of our campus shines through no matter the season. In the fall, leafy trees burst in a kaleidoscope of oranges, yellows and rusty reds. In the winter, pillows of snow adorn our remarkable architecture. Walk along the pedestrian-friendly Grande Allée and hang out under the majestic oaks in front of Tabaret Hall. Our camera-ready setting will inspire you to learn, laugh and grow.

Cutting-edge facilities: The jewels in our crown

We’ve opened five new cutting-edge facilities in the past eight years. These sleek, modern spaces complement the rich architectural history of our campus, dating back to the 19th century.

Our newer additions include the STEM Complex, Learning Crossroads, LabO black box theatre, Advanced Research Complex and Lees football dome. These high-tech facilities represent a next-gen evolution, standing proudly among buildings with deep roots, such as Tabaret Hall, Hagen Hall and Alex Trebek Alumni Hall.

Our shrinking carbon footprint

The University of Ottawa ranks in the top 100 globally for sustainability. Our Office of Campus Sustainability ensures that our campus is ethical and green, and our buildings reflect this commitment to sustainable development. For example, the Social Sciences Building contains a six-storey living wall with 2,000 plants from 12 different species, and 80% of the building’s heating needs are met through heat redistribution. We have also joined 15 other Canadian universities in adopting a charter on responsible investment.
