Every year, the University of Ottawa CO-OP office selects one CO-OP student per faculty to win a Student of the Year Award. These students must excel in three criteria: on the job achievement, academic achievement and extra-curricular activities at school, at work or in the community. In 2022, six students received the CO-OP Student of the Year Award.

When choosing your CO-OP placement, one option is finding a sector where your studies are relevant but not necessarily directly related. A benefit of CO-OP is diversifying your work experience — whether through a different position, another company branch, a whole new company or an entirely separate industry.

The very first CO-OP work term is often both exciting and unfamiliar. Students get exposed to a whole new work environment and learn how to put their academic knowledge to the test. This can be especially true if the placement is taking place outside of Ottawa, making it that much more enriching and presenting new challenges.
