Description of the event

This course will enable us to learn more about the history of the Black community in Canada and the impact of Black people in Canadian society. It has four modules, so we will meet once a week during the month of February to complete it together!

Module 1: ''Before the Underground Railway: the Roots of Anti-Blackness in Canada'' 

Topic: Colonization during the 1800s and 1900s, slavery, racism.  

February 13, 2025 (2 p.m. - 3 p.m.)

Module 2: ''Migrations, Promises and Multiculturalism'' 

Topic: The different Black migrations in Canada, immigration policies, and multiculturalism.

February 20, 2025 (2 p.m. - 3 p.m.)

Module 3: ''Black Canadian Civil Rights'' 

Topic: The perseverance and resistance, reaping the rewards of their efforts, change in policies, laws and Canadian society by Blacks.

February 25, 2025 (2 p.m - 3 p.m.) 

Module 4: ''Freedom Dreaming: Beauty & Artistry in Black Canadian Life'' 

Topic: The arts as a tool of liberation and the contribution of Black women to the world of art.

  • Attending all sessions is not mandatory.
  • We recommend bringing your own laptop to get your certification at the end of the course.
