Did the exposure of winning Big Brother Canada in 2016 help your DJ career?
“Definitely!… I had no idea it was such a big show. Like this is one of the biggest reality TV shows in the country. And I’m like, “Whoa, I just did that.” I learned so much about myself, like how resilient I am. If I set my mind to something or a goal, I can achieve anything. And that’s kind of how I live my life. Boom. Believe it. You can achieve it.”
What are your ambitions? Where do you want to take your music next?
“I would love for it to be listened to all around the world, and I would love for my songs to help heal people. I think it’s cool when you connect with a DJ or a producer’s music. Art for me is just purely a journey of always learning about myself and my connection to the world.”
How did your student experience at the University of Ottawa play a part in your journey as an artist?
“uOttawa shaped my artist career in a really, unique way. I think it’s because a lot of the friends I met at uOttawa in first year, second year, third year, they were all coming to see me. So many people came to support my earliest DJ sets. I feel always connected to where that project started.”
Any words of advice for uOttawa students?
“Just be yourself and follow your dreams, cultivate your dreams, bring them to reality, talk about them and you know, fall in love with who you are and who you want to be.”
What’s the secret to reading a crowd and getting them dancing?
“Oh man, that is like my favourite thing to do. I think it has a lot to do with the tracks I choose to play and how I’m building tension and then... letting the tension go, and we all just kind of have this moment of major, massive euphoria together. I pay attention to the crowd. I genuinely take DJing as a great responsibility. Being the person doing the music for thousands of people sometimes... this is a spiritual experience for me. I feel I have a responsibility to, you know, uplift their souls!”
