The study introduced a series of mandatory planning and reflection assignments in two different undergraduate courses, each tailored to the unique goals and requirements of the course while centering around three core themes: goal setting, planning and time management, and reflection. By guiding students through these structured assignments, the program provided students with tools to set academic and personal goals, plan their study time, and critically evaluate their progress.
Qualitative analyses of student responses indicated that many recognized the value of developing effective time management skills to achieve academic success and support their overall well-being. Students employed a variety of strategies to organize their tasks, but many expressed challenges in balancing schoolwork with self-care.
The findings underscore a growing need to equip students with strategies that not only foster academic achievement but also support holistic well-being. By helping students set realistic goals and effectively manage their time, this pilot study highlights the importance of practical, skills-based education in preparing students for the demands of university life and beyond. The research team looks forward to building on these insights to further support students in achieving a balanced and successful academic journey.
