Computer Technology: Quantum Computing, AI and Cybersecurity (course code TEJ2O) is designed to give high school students an early edge in some of the most advanced fields in computer science and engineering, as they earn credits towards their Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
Cutting edge and hands on
As AI continues to revolutionize industry, this course empowers students to understand its underlying principles and potential applications. They’ll explore AI algorithms and their societal impact, building a solid foundation in this rapidly evolving field.
Students will also learn about computer networks and cybersecurity, including network system basics, identifying potential security threats and strategies to protect sensitive information.
The course focuses on practical, hands-on learning — a core value of all courses offered at the Faculty secondary school. Through interactive projects, students will apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios, gaining experience in how quantum computing, AI and cybersecurity are used.
In addition to technical skills, the course emphasizes critical thinking, problem-solving and teamwork — key competencies in any technology-related career.
Bridging high school and higher education
The Faculty of Engineering Secondary School inspires young minds and fosters a passion for innovation. High school students in the National Capital Region can take technological design and computer science courses for secondary school credits.
“We are committed to nurturing the next generation of tech leaders,” says Julie Olivier, principal of the secondary school and manager of engineering outreach. “This course was developed to inspire and challenge students, giving them a head start in some of the most critical areas of technology.”
This course is part of the faculty’s broader initiative to engage students early and foster interest in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) through outreach programs. By offering credited secondary school courses, uOttawa is making higher learning more accessible and bridging the gap between high school and university.
Enrolment open
Enrolment for the TEJ2O Computer Technology course is now open, with limited spots available. The course is for students in grades 8 to 11 (Ontario) and in secondary II to V (Quebec).
Fall 2024 schedule
- Online classes: Every Tuesday evening from September 10, 2024, to January 14, 2025, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
- On-campus sessions: Saturday, November 23, 2024, and Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
