“On the India bombshell, I have had a longstanding experience of doing research/advising work in India and with the Indian legal system with a government that was then truly democratic. The Modi government now an increasingly autocratic government seems to be following China, Russia, and their allies in promoting extraterritorial repression across the world, not only in Canada. Middle powers like Canada and smaller powers will need to work with the US and the EU to stop the worst forms of this repression. Without that alliance, Canada would face huge geopolitical challenges and risks. Our democracy and the rule of law are also at risk.”
