Professor Josephine B. Etowa of the School of Nursing has received the Canadian Public Health Association’s prestigious Ron Draper Health Promotion Award for those working in the sector.
Etowa has been involved with Black communities in order to reduce health-care inequity. Her research aims to bring about systemic change in several areas, such as the perinatal care, COVID-19 and HIV/AIDS. Etowa has also founded two community-based organizations and a community research lab, to achieve health equity for Black communities. As well, she has mentored over a hundred members of these communities.
