Statement for Franco-Ontarian Day

Franco-Ontarian celebrations
Francophonie
The Franco-Ontarian flag soaring proudly in the sky
In celebration of Franco-Ontarian Day, which takes place on September 25, our faculty is proud to highlight the Francophonie, which lies at the heart of our identity. As the most francophone faculty at the university, FSS is fully committed to promoting the French language and supporting the Francophone community, fostering diversity and culture in the nation’s capital.

Our commitment is built around three essential pillars: shaping responsible citizens capable of addressing the current and future needs of communities through French and immersion programs in social sciences, fostering francophone inclusion and diversity, and supporting cutting-edge research on the challenges faced by modern francophone societies. Being located in the heart of the Canadian capital, we have a unique opportunity to collaborate with public institutions and francophone organizations to create a space for dialogue and innovation.

In our mission, we strive to become the top choice for French-language social sciences studies. Through our Strategic Plan, we aim to enrich the student experience, drive forward cutting-edge research, and integrate values of diversity, equity, and inclusion within our community. This plan places the Francophonie at the center of our initiatives, expanding our French program offerings while facilitating access to higher education for francophones both in Canada and internationally.

On this special day, the Faculty of Social Sciences reaffirms its role in promoting and celebrating the Francophonie across Ontario and Canada.

Several events will mark the day, inviting our entire community to gather and celebrate:

Together, we are building strong bridges between cultures, strengthening our community, and contributing to the flourishing of the French language for generations to come.
