The University of Ottawa among the top 150 best universities in the world

The University of Ottawa climbs to 141st in the world, according to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2020.

The results are in! The University of Ottawa climbs to 141st in the world, according to the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2020, a significant jump from last year’s 176th position. uOttawa also retains its status as the 7th best university in Canada for the third year in a row, further cultivating its reputation for providing students with a world-class education.

The University scored in the top 25th percentile for four out of the five categories used by the THE to measure excellence ¾ namely teaching, citations, research and international outlook ¾ and in the 50th percentile for industry income.

uOttawa continues to gain momentum in the “citations” category, climbing 163 spots in the last two years, and shows improvement in areas such as teaching reputation, doctorate and bachelor’s degrees awarded, institutional income to academic staff and proportion of international students.

“For the past few years, the University of Ottawa has consistently ranked among the top 2% of universities in the world,” says President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ottawa, Jacques Frémont. “Today’s THE rankings clearly demonstrate that our efforts have paid off. Credit goes to our talented researchers, who constantly push the boundaries of knowledge, make breakthrough discoveries and bring forth innovative ideas. Recently, uOttawa was also one of the founding universities behind the U7 Alliance, comprised of the top institutions from G7 countries.”

But the work is far from over! In the coming years, the University of Ottawa will continue to mobilize research knowledge in areas of social and economic importance by facilitating international collaborations and multidisciplinary partnerships, investing in research infrastructure and talent, engaging different communities with mutual interests, and fostering and celebrating equity, diversity and inclusiveness in our research approaches.
