As G7 leaders gather in Canada next year, the University of Ottawa will host critical conversations between university leaders from around the globe as host of the prestigious 2025 U7+ Alliance Summit.
The announcement that up to 100 university leaders from 20 countries will meet next year at uOttawa was made today at the end of the sixth annual U7+ Presidential Summit at Bocconi University in Milan, Italy.
“We are excited to welcome thought leaders and delegates from around the world to our campus on April 22 and 23, 2025, for a series of transformative discussions,” said Jacques Frémont, president and vice-chancellor of the University of Ottawa. “This summit is not merely an event; it’s an initiative to further cement our commitment to academic excellence and collaborative research, promising to leave a lasting impact on global policy and co-operation.”

The U7+ Alliance is a global consortium of universities that unite to tackle the world’s most pressing challenges, advocating for the power of education and research in global policy formulation. It was created to support G7 world leaders, and the host university is selected from among the host country’s universities.
In 2025, Canada will be hosting the G7 Summit. Since the creation of the U7+ Alliance in 2019, this will be the first opportunity for Canada to host this gathering of international academic leaders.
The selection of the University of Ottawa as host is a recognition of our world-class facilities, inclusive and bilingual academic environment, and ability to catalyze significant global dialogues. The University of Ottawa is set to offer a platform where linguistic and cultural diversity enriches the exchange of ideas, paving the way for innovative solutions to emerge from this convergence of global minds.
“University of Ottawa is uniquely positioned to host the 2025 U7+ Presidential Summit. The Steering Committee, working groups and membership look forward to collaborating with the uOttawa team to make the event a success,” said U7+ Alliance chair and University of Toronto president Meric Gertler.
More information will become available in the coming months as the planning process starts to host this important international gathering of world university leaders. We invite our global academic community, students and the public to engage with us in this exciting journey towards making a meaningful difference in the world.
