I received the animal ethics and regulations certification by Western’s animal care and veterinary services for working with marmosets (handling, feeding, box training, etc.).
I received my training form Université Lyon 1 – VetAgro Sup, Campus Vétérinaire, 69280 Marcy l'étoile, France in 2021.
This training included 56 hours of face to face teaching (theory and practice) and 24 hours of personal work and eLearning. It focuses on rodents and rabbits.
The main aspects of the trainings were Ethics and legislation, Project design in accordance with 3Rs, Ethology/animal welfare, husbandry and health monitoring of laboratory animals, Pain recognition and alleviation, anesthesia, analgesia, end points and humane killing and Good practices of manipulation, administration of substances and blood sampling.
I've been working with C57BL/6 mice during my thesis. My main tasks were to prepare and set up the animal protocol, then to ensure the animals' well-being, feed them, monitor body weight and feed intake. I also carried out metabolomic tests (GTT) and took part in animal sacrifice and biological sample collection.
I completed the CCAC training modules and attended an in-person training presentation in January 2024. I have not directly worked with animals in the lab.
i attended a mandatory lecture session for the tmm program that talked about the animal ethics board, including its practices and involvement, etc. It also covered best practices and overall how uottawa labs work with animals in an ethical manner.
